from X-bit labs…
Kingston Technology, a leading supplier of memory modules, demonstrated on Thursday its ability to overclock its HyperX DDR3 memory modules to unprecedented clock-speed with the help of a mainboard running Nvidia Corp.’s next-generation core-logic that supports DDR3 memory.
The memory module maker overclocked its HyperX PC3-16000 (KHX16000D2K2/2G) memory modules from their default clock-speed of 2.0GHz to 2.13GHz using a mainboard powered by yet unannounced Nvidia nForce 790i core-logic for Intel Corp.’s processors. At press time it was unclear which latency and voltage settings were set.

Tennessee Governor Phil Bredsen (D) will be presented with a new bill in the upcoming days. This bill, is designed to require all universities that are funded in part or fully by the state, to monitor all network traffic in an effort to stop copyright infringment. If a university in the state of Tennessee were to receive 10 complaints, (complaints not convictions) the state would have the authority to remove all state funding for this offense.
..from Ars Technica
“Many questions remain unanswered about the extent to which piracy occurs on college campuses. The MPAA recently retracted the outrageously inflated college piracy statistics that it published after a 2005 study. Despite the fact that the MPAA’s numbers were egregiously inaccurate, the study has been repeatedly cited by lawmakers. As we have pointed out in the past, it isn’t clear that every download necessarily constitutes a lost sale. If the raman stereotype is to be believed, the average college student doesn’t exactly have a lot of extra money for buying movies.
Universities understandably complain about the high costs of acquiring and operating network analysis tools. In an attempt to make it easier for schools to shoulder the burden of antipiracy enforcement efforts, the MPAA created a toolkit last year that aimed to automate much of the process. The toolkit, however, was built using open source software and failed to comply with software’s license. After the MPAA refused to take down the software and comply with copyright law, one of the developers sent a DMCA takedown notice to the organization’s Internet service provider. The MPAA claimed that it would make the toolkit available again after resolving the copyright issues, but still hasn’t done so.”

All major vendors have Nvidia’s new 9600GT in stock, but my favorite Nvidia vendor is eVGA. The top 9600GT SSC from eVGA has a core clock of 740Mhz, shader clock of 1.7Ghz and a memory clock of 1.95Ghz. There is a review at ExtremeTech.com here.

It’s really shaping up to be quite the awesome midrange video card, especially in SLI.
All 9600GT’s have only 64 stream processors, but it’s clocked a lot higher then most other 9600GT’s so that fact is mitigated somewhat. Throw in another one for SLI and it’s midrange best-for-the-buck gaming. To date Nvidia is continuing to limit 3-way SLI to the 8800GTX/Ultra. I really like eVGA because they stand behind their product even if you overclock an already overclocked video card, and it’s the same situation with their motherboards. You really can’t go wrong with a lifetime warranty! I’m already salivating to buy a pair of these for some Vista/DX10 sweetness.

Hey Ya’ll, Stoffy here with another exciting blog post for JohnB Show Blog!
But today, we digress from the normal happy go lucky posts which we are ever so inclined too, and we talk about something very serious.
On Friday, February 15th, 2008. My father and I went into the local Las Vegas Area Fry’s Electronics Mart. As we do often, we were taken aback by the pure magnitude of the items in store.
We set out with one purpose: To buy DVD-R disks in order to save our entire hard drives to hard copy. I myself found a cool Tablet Laptop to play with and was easily amused.
I have always found Fry’s Electronics to be a great and powerful God of the Electronics world, but not today..Not anymore.
Because on this day, An employee had a few harsh words for my father. I will reenact the conversation for you now.
Dad: Hey man, Is there an ATM in here?
Salesman: Nah man, You can find one over at the square though.
Dad (Looking to me): We’re screwed!
(I walk away to get a drink)
Salesman: Don’t be a Dick.
This is the kind of service you can expect from Fry’s Electronics, Because I am by far not the only person who has expirienced crappy service and total and complete lack of respect from sales personel, John has as well.
I ask you now folks, please…Think before you shop.

SETUP PREREQUISITES
Windows Vista SP1 requires two prerequisite packages to install; a third is required
for versions of Windows Vista that are BitLocker™ Drive Encryption capable (Window
Vista Enterprise and Windows Vista Ultimate)
The first of the three prerequisite packages required for the service pack includes
updates to the servicing stack—the component that handles installation and removal
of software updates, language packs, and optional windows features. This update is
necessary to successfully install and uninstall the service pack; it also improves the
performance and reliability of the service pack installation.
The second of the three prerequisite packages includes updates required to reliably
install or uninstall the service pack.
The third of the three prerequisite packages contains an update necessary for proper
servicing of Windows BitLocker Drive Encryption capable PCs.
